One way Down... or up?
I just registered here... been looking for some other people to talk to for a while now...
We are a gay couple in Durban and we just seem to be facing more than one problem when it comes to Adopting a child... Something we both feel very strongly about.
My partner feels very strongly about adopting a baby that is not of the same race... a concept that i can understand especially as this might confuse the child in the long run, and also its his preference... I on the other hand don't mind what race baby we get, I just know that my life is ready for this, and I have all the love in the world for an adventure like this!
While my partner feels that way, and as I said, I totally understand, I cannot afford a private adoption, or a surrogate mother... and that part kills me. Ive seen on some post that the private adoption process cost them R15 000 - R20 000 at most... But that's not something i can get my hands on in a flash...
I dont know what to do, i am stuck in a catch 22 here and i am losing hope...

Re: One way Down... or up?
Hi Ashely, welcome to the forum.
I think if you are planning on adopting a white baby then private is probably the only way to go. I adopted inter-racially but if you would like any info please feel free to ask.

Re: One way Down... or up?
Ashley, welcome. You know what, never say never, and do not give up on your dream. I would like to make a few suggestions.
Get into contact with a charity, or state welfare organization. Register or join a orphanage and become weekend and holiday parents, please, I am talking of experience. Babies are not always easily available, doesnt matter what race, these things takes time. And you need to get to know yourself and your partner as well as parents (role of parents), what feels right for you as a couple/family. Try it, you might fall madly in love with a young child from one of these organizations that are in desperate need of a loving home and loving parents. There are many children in so much need, we need to help, we are childless parents, whoever you are, rich, poor, White, Black,we need to help in any way we can.
You are there to make a difference in a child's life, to make that child change direction and living their lives to the full, you will be the one in charge of this, it is a big responsibility. And it is not a quick process, nor is it fast, but I think it is important to go through the steps, you learn allot about yourself, and if you do not find that this is suited to you as a couple/family, I am sure, with one of the welfare organizations, you would be able to find a baby with time. But just get started. Start your journey to find you child! Your life will never be the same. If you have questions and if I can help in any way, please send me a pm.
